New Yazoo Hop Project IPA In Stock!

ty_posthead
This is a great small batch IPA. Linus has numbered the batches on the boxes, and each batch will be hopped a little differently. Right now, we have 12 ounce 4-packs of batch 13, and will be putting a keg of batch 12 on draft as soon as a tap is free. This newest “Brewmasters Reserve” release will sell out fast. Get it while you can. Collectors may want to get a 4 pack from each batch so you can compare!

La Gloria Cubana Artisanos de Miami

These are some of the best cigars released in recent months. Only 100 retailers around the country got these initially, and we were the first in the Nashville area. The Elegante, which is roughly a Churchill size, was just named #9 out of Cigar Aficionado’s top 25 for the year. A lot of our customers and Woody’s staff have tried them, and we all agree that they are nicely balanced medium bodied cigars with superior flavor. Construction and burn is excellent. This was Ernesto Perez-Carillo’s last project before his departure from the El Credito division of General Cigar, as he is starting his own company with some of his children. Can’t wait to see what this master blender comes up with!

Quality on a budget

Hey there, I still want to enjoy a good cigar, except I cant really afford to pay $15-20.00 per cigar. Can you advise me on a good cigar that runs $9-11.00? I really like the Davidoff 6000 if thats helps determine my taste!

SCHIP Hits the Fan

I finally got the paperwork details on the new federal tobacco taxes, and we are implementing price changes on the affected items as I write. As usual, the government made things about as hard to understand as they could. Folks that buy the “tins” of all but the very smallest cigarillos are going to be hit hard. Many of these cigars weigh more than 3 lbs per thousand, and are thus classified as LARGE cigars. What a joke! Don’t be surprised to see the retail price almost double! I’m sure many stores are considering no longer carrying the “roll-your-own” cigarette tobaccos, which saw a 2000% increase in taxation. I think the reason they are getting all the fast food chains in line with required statements of calories, fat content, etc… is so they can put a junk food tax on things like hamburgers and fries. I wonder how folks would like it if their $1.79 fries suddenly cost $3.29?

Patio at Woody’s is Open!

Now that warmer weather is returning, we’ve got all the furniture out again. It’s my favorite place to enjoy a cigar and conversation. When weather permits, I’ve always enjoyed a cigar outdoors… some of my most contemplative hours have been spent relaxing with my favorite smoke, looking up at a startlit sky. It’s supposed to be sunny and 70 degrees the next couple of days, so come on out!

Is Woody’s Smokes & Brews Cheaper than buying Online?

nick_head2.jpgAs a manager at Woody’s Smokes & Brews I am always looking at our competitors’ prices.  With that said, in the last couple years retail cigar stores have had to compete with on-line cigar stores.  Many of these on-line stores say they have the lowest prices on cigars.  I wanted to know if they did and how our prices compared to their prices.  What I found was surprising.  They all claim to have the lowest prices and claim that you will save a lot of money, but do you really?  Woody’s Smokes & Brews has always had the lowest prices in middle Tennessee and we back that with a guarantee.  But how would we stack up against the on-line stores?   What I found is we still had the lowest prices.  The first site I visited was Thompson Cigars, as they are one of the biggest on-line stores.  I picked 5 cigars that we both carried then compared box prices and this is what I found:

Fuente Don Carlos No. 3- Woody’s price is $179.78(box of 25) and Thompson’s price is $207.00(box of 25)  That is a difference of $27.22 with a 13.15% savings

Romeo Y Julita Reserva Real Toro- Woody’s price is $112.27(box of 25) and Thompson’s price is $138.00(box of 25) That is a difference of $25.73 with a 18.65% savings

La Flor Dom. Chisel Nat.- Woody’s price is $129.42(box of 20) and Thompson’ s price is $145.00(box of 20) That is a difference of $15.58 with a savings of 10.75%

Montecristo Robusto- Woody’s price is $173.03(box of 25) and Thompson’s price is $225.00(box of 25) That is a difference of $51.97 with a savings of 23.1%

Montecristo Churchill- Woody’s price is $184.28(box of 25) and Thompson’s price is $238.00(box of 25) on sale regular $257.00 so that is a difference of $53.72 with a savings of 22.6%

Woody’s was lower on every cigar and the Thompson prices did not include shipping and handling.  This was a good start.  After checking out some more on-line stores like cigarsonline.com, cigarinternational.com, nickscigarworld.com, and Holtz.com I got similar results.  I found that we were cheaper most of the time and once I figured in shipping and handling we were almost always cheaper.  What I had found was Woody’s Smokes & Brews is the best place to buy cigars if you live in middle Tennessee, unless you want to pay more.  The other plus to buying from a retail store like Woody’s is you can see what you are buying before you buy.  You know it has been properly stored and you’re not taking any risks.  When you buy on-line you don’t know if the cigars have been cared for properly.  Why pay more to take that risk?  If you live in middle Tennessee you are going to find that Woody’s Smokes & Brews is the best place to buy your cigars, so stop in and see for yourself.

New “Winston Churchill” Line by Davidoff

ty_posthead.jpg winstonchurchhill_davidoff.jpg

Davidoff’s Hendrik Kelner has created a powerful new line of cigars in honor of the Great Statesman and cigar aficionado, Sir Winston Churchill. I finally tried one, and they are truly unique in flavor. There are 4 sizes, ranging in price from $13.19 to $21.49, which is a little pricey, but well worth the investment. This cigar is full flavored without any sense of harshness. Woodsy and spicey with only a touch of sweetness, they will pair well with your favorite Scotch. The blend is five filler tobaccos with a Dominican Binder and sungrown Ecuador wrapper.

We will be having a tasting event in April featuring these cigars. In the meantime I encourage you to try one now. They are sure to be highly talked about cigars in 2008.
